Newegg Commerce Inc. is accelerating its push into the rapidly evolving landscape of agentic commerce by announcing that it has officially integrated Google’s Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) for online checkout.

The prominent consumer electronics retailer is joining a growing roster of major retail brands—including Wayfair, Walmart, and Macy’s—that have thrown their support behind the protocol since Google formally launched it earlier this year. Through this integration, products sold by Newegg will now be directly purchasable within Google’s AI Mode, traditional Google Search, and Gemini conversational experiences, marking a significant milestone in how consumers discover and buy technology hardware online.

Newegg holds a prominent position within the broader digital retail ecosystem, ranking No. 86 in the Top 1000 Database, a comprehensive market research tool that evaluates North America’s largest online retailers based on annual ecommerce sales and other performance metrics. Furthermore, the company is listed at No. 429 in Digital Commerce 360’s specialized AI Commerce Rankings, a distinct set of metrics available through the Top 1000 Pro with AI Database.

Why Newegg is Using Google’s UCP

The decision to adopt Google’s infrastructure stems from a strategic initiative to meet consumers wherever they are interacting with artificial intelligence tools. As digital search habits shift from traditional keyword queries to generative AI prompts, retail executives are working quickly to ensure their product catalogs are embedded directly into conversational environments.

“AI is changing how the world buys technology, and Newegg intends to be at the forefront of that change,” said Montaque Hou, chief information officer at Newegg. “We moved early to make our catalog shoppable inside AI experiences, and integrating Universal Commerce Protocol powered checkout across Google brings that vision to life in one of the most widely used platforms in the world.”

By implementing UCP—which Google originally co-developed alongside a coalition of prominent retailers and commerce platforms including Etsy, Shopify, Target, Walmart, and Wayfair—Newegg retains its status as the merchant of record. At the same time, the framework supplies Google with structured product catalog data required to power seamless, AI-driven shopping experiences without forcing the consumer to navigate away from their current search interface.

“Wherever someone asks an AI what to buy, we want Newegg ready to answer,” Hou added, underscoring the company’s aggressive positioning in the agentic commerce space.

Newegg’s Other Recent AI Efforts

Newegg’s adoption of Google’s UCP builds upon a sustained series of artificial intelligence initiatives rolled out by the retailer over the past year. These efforts span multiple customer touchpoints, reflecting a comprehensive strategy to embed smart technology across the entire shopping journey.

Among these recent developments is Celeste, the company’s proprietary conversational AI assistant hosted directly on the Newegg website to help shoppers navigate complex hardware specifications and product selections. Additionally, the electronics retailer has established support for product listings displayed within Perplexity’s AI-enabled search experience, diversifying the avenues through which prospective buyers can discover its inventory.

The integration with Google aims to dramatically shorten the distance between product discovery and transaction completion. Online shoppers utilizing Google’s supported platforms will now have the option to complete purchases using Google Pay for Newegg merchandise. Crucially, this checkout capability functions inline, meaning customers can finalize transactions directly within their search results or AI prompt interfaces without interrupting their workflow.

Industry leaders view the collaboration as a key turning point for the broader retail sector as agentic commerce transitions from experimental technology to everyday consumer utility.

“Newegg enabling UCP-powered checkout on Google marks a new milestone as we scale agentic commerce,” said Ashish Gupta, vice president and general manager for merchant shopping at Google. “We’re building the future of AI-driven shopping together as an industry, and this is another strong example of businesses delivering delightful, diverse experiences and products for their shoppers.”
