Consumer electronics retail giant Newegg Commerce Inc. is taking a significant step forward in the evolution of digital retail by expanding its participation in agentic commerce channels. The company announced that it has officially integrated Google’s Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) to enable seamless, in-context online checkout directly within Google’s burgeoning artificial intelligence ecosystem.

By adopting this new technology, Newegg joins a growing roster of major retail brands—including Wayfair, Walmart, Macy’s, and other prominent merchants—that have thrown their support behind the Universal Commerce Protocol since Google formally launched the framework in January. This strategic integration means that products sold by Newegg will now be directly purchasable within Google’s advanced interfaces, including Google’s AI Mode, traditional Google Search results, and Gemini conversational experiences.

Newegg, recognized as No. 86 in the comprehensive Top 1000 Database—a leading market research tool that ranks North America’s largest online retailers based on annual ecommerce sales and performance metrics—is positioning itself at the cutting edge of automated retail. Furthermore, the company holds the No. 429 position in Digital Commerce 360’s specialized AI Commerce Rankings, a forward-looking dataset available through the Top 1000 Pro with AI Database.

Why Newegg is Using Google’s UCP

The retail landscape is undergoing a fundamental transformation as artificial intelligence redefines how consumers discover, evaluate, and purchase products online. For Newegg, integrating into Google’s protocol is a natural extension of its broader corporate strategy to meet tech-savvy consumers wherever they happen to be searching for electronics, computer hardware, and consumer goods.

“AI is changing how the world buys technology, and Newegg intends to be at the forefront of that change,” said Montaque Hou, chief information officer at Newegg. “We moved early to make our catalog shoppable inside AI experiences, and integrating Universal Commerce Protocol powered checkout across Google brings that vision to life in one of the most widely used platforms in the world.”

The Universal Commerce Protocol was co-developed by Google in close collaboration with a wide array of leading retailers and commerce platforms, such as Etsy, Shopify, Target, Walmart, and Wayfair. By implementing this shared protocol, Newegg successfully retains its status as the merchant of record for transactions while simultaneously supplying Google with up-to-date product catalog data. This data is what fuels the rich, responsive, and AI-driven shopping experiences that modern consumers have come to expect.

As consumer behavior shifts away from traditional browsing and toward conversational and intent-driven queries, Newegg wants to ensure its inventory is always accessible. “Wherever someone asks an AI what to buy, we want Newegg ready to answer,” Hou stated.

Newegg’s Other Recent AI Efforts

The integration of Google’s UCP is far from an isolated experiment; rather, it represents the latest milestone in a sustained, multi-layered push into artificial intelligence and agentic commerce that Newegg has pursued over the past year.

Among these notable initiatives is Celeste, the company’s proprietary conversational AI shopping assistant integrated directly into the Newegg website to help users navigate complex technical specifications and find the right products. Additionally, Newegg has established support for product listings displayed within Perplexity’s AI-enabled search experience, ensuring a robust presence across various emerging search paradigms.

With the new Google integration, Newegg hopes to dramatically streamline and accelerate the purchasing journey for consumers. Online shoppers utilizing Google’s supported platforms will now be able to leverage Google Pay to complete Newegg purchases swiftly and securely. Crucially, they will be able to accomplish this entire transaction loop without ever needing to leave their search results, chat prompts, or AI interaction interfaces once they have made a buying decision.

Industry leaders view this development as a major validation of agentic commerce models, where autonomous or semi-autonomous AI systems handle the friction of online transactions on behalf of the user.

“Newegg enabling UCP-powered checkout on Google marks a new milestone as we scale agentic commerce,” said Ashish Gupta, vice president and general manager for merchant shopping at Google. “Estamos building the future of AI-driven shopping together as an industry and this is another strong example of businesses delivering delightful, diverse experiences and products for their shoppers.”
