Consumer electronics retail giant Newegg Commerce Inc. is deepening its footprint in the rapidly evolving landscape of agentic commerce. The company announced that it has officially integrated Google’s Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) to streamline and enable seamless online checkout directly within AI-driven search environments.

By joining forces with Google, Newegg follows in the footsteps of several major retail brands, including Wayfair, Walmart, and Macy’s, all of which have thrown their support behind the protocol since Google formally launched it earlier this year. Under this new integration, products sold by Newegg will become directly purchasable within Google’s AI Mode, traditional Google Search results, and Gemini conversational experiences.

Newegg, a prominent player in the digital retail space, holds the No. 86 spot in the Top 1000 Database, a comprehensive market research tool that ranks North America’s largest online retailers based on annual ecommerce sales and other performance metrics. Additionally, the company is ranked No. 429 in Digital Commerce 360’s specialized AI Commerce Rankings, a data set made accessible through the Top 1000 Pro with AI Database, reflecting its ongoing commitment to integrating advanced technologies into its core retail strategy.

Why Newegg is Using Google’s UCP

The shift toward agentic commerce represents a fundamental change in how consumers discover, evaluate, and purchase products online. As artificial intelligence increasingly dictates the pathways of consumer decision-making, major merchants are racing to ensure their product catalogs are accessible wherever prospective buyers happen to be looking.

“AI is changing how the world buys technology, and Newegg intends to be at the forefront of that change,” said Montaque Hou, chief information officer at Newegg. “We moved early to make our catalog shoppable inside AI experiences, and integrating Universal Commerce Protocol powered checkout across Google brings that vision to life in one of the most widely used platforms in the world.”

The Universal Commerce Protocol was co-developed by Google in close collaboration with a wide array of prominent retailers and commerce platforms, such as Etsy, Shopify, Target, Walmart, and Wayfair. By adopting this shared standard, Newegg preserves its critical status as the merchant of record for transactions while seamlessly supplying Google with the rich product catalog data necessary to power sophisticated AI shopping experiences.

For Newegg, the strategic objective is clear and customer-centric: positioning the brand to capture demand at the exact moment a consumer expresses intent. As Hou succinctly noted, “Wherever someone asks an AI what to buy, we want Newegg ready to answer.”

Newegg’s Other Recent AI Efforts

Newegg’s adoption of Google’s UCP is far from an isolated initiative; rather, it forms a core component of a broader, aggressive push into artificial intelligence and conversational commerce over the past year. The retailer has systematically rolled out several consumer-facing AI capabilities designed to reduce friction and modernize the digital shopping journey.

Among these initiatives is Celeste, the company’s proprietary conversational AI shopping assistant hosted directly on the Newegg website. Designed to guide customers through complex technical specifications and product comparisons, Celeste represents the company’s effort to replicate the personalized assistance of a brick-and-mortar tech advisor in a digital environment. Furthermore, Newegg has established support for product listings displayed within Perplexity’s AI-enabled search experience, ensuring a multi-channel presence across the leading generative search ecosystems.

The integration of Google’s UCP takes these efforts a step further by drastically accelerating the final stages of the transaction. Online shoppers utilizing Google’s supported platforms will now be able to leverage Google Pay to complete Newegg purchases swiftly and securely. Most importantly, this transaction capability functions entirely within the user’s current context, meaning customers can complete a purchase without ever needing to leave their search results, chat prompts, or AI exploration sessions.

Industry leaders view this milestone as a critical step forward for the broader retail ecosystem. Ashish Gupta, vice president and general manager for merchant shopping at Google, emphasized the collaborative nature of the rollout and its implications for the future of digital retail.

“Newegg enabling UCP-powered checkout on Google marks a new milestone as we scale agentic commerce,” Gupta said. “We’re building the future of AI-driven shopping together as an industry and this is another strong example of businesses delivering delightful, diverse experiences and products for their shoppers.”
