In a strategic move to capture a larger share of the subscription retail market, Walmart Inc. has announced that it will begin bundling memberships for its flagship Walmart+ and warehouse sibling Sam’s Club Plus programs. The retail giant is placing a calculated bet that shoppers will eagerly subscribe to both ecosystems when presented with the opportunity to save nearly $100 annually.

The two paid membership programs, which span both Walmart’s massive digital and physical footprint and the popular warehouse club format, have traditionally operated as separate entities. Both offerings feature core pillars centered around convenience, notably including free delivery options for consumers. Under the new initiative, these extensive lineups of perks will be offered together under a unified annual fee of $120.

Walmart, a dominant force in the retail sector, ranks No. 2 in Digital Commerce 360’s Top 1000 Database, a comprehensive market research tool that tracks North America’s largest online retailers by their annual ecommerce sales. Furthermore, the company holds the No. 37 position in Digital Commerce 360 and ReFiBuy’s AI Commerce Rankings, a specialized metric available through the Top 1000 Pro with AI Database that evaluates how major companies integrate artificial intelligence into their commercial strategies. By combining its primary membership ecosystems, Walmart is further cementing its infrastructure to leverage customer data, streamline logistics, and maximize lifetime customer value.

Why Walmart+ and Sam’s Club Plus Memberships Are Being Offered Together

Company leadership frames the new bundle as a direct response to consumer demands for greater value and flexibility in an increasingly competitive retail landscape. Executives believe that combining the two programs will redefine what shoppers expect from a single subscription fee.

“We’re giving people a reason to expect more from their memberships,” said John Furner, president and CEO at Walmart. “For $120 a year, we’re raising expectations for what a membership can deliver: more money in their pockets and more time to call their own.”

As part of the rollout, Walmart published an exhaustive breakdown of the program, outlining 26 distinct perks made available to subscribers. This roster incorporates the robust benefits previously found in the standalone Walmart+ and Sam’s Club Plus plans, alongside several exclusive features designed specifically for the combined bundle.

The pricing structure has been meticulously designed to encourage migration and adoption among existing and prospective customers. For current Walmart+ members utilizing the retailer’s annual plan, upgrading to the combined membership represents a modest additional annual cost of $22. Meanwhile, existing Sam’s Club Plus members will be able to add Walmart+ to their current subscription at absolutely no extra cost, providing an immediate incentive for warehouse shoppers to utilize Walmart’s broader digital and delivery services. For standard Sam’s Club members who do not currently pay for the Plus tier, adding both memberships to their accounts will require a $60 increase per year over their baseline club membership.

Benefits from the Individual Walmart+ and Sam’s Club Plus Memberships

The introduction of the combined bundle is the latest in a series of aggressive expansions by both Walmart+ and Sam’s Club Plus. Over recent years, both programs have continuously added new incentives, forging strategic partnerships designed to build out comprehensive benefit packages capable of competing toe-to-toe with rival subscription programs, most notably Amazon Prime and Target Circle 360.

In its latest major announcement, Walmart highlighted several cornerstone attractions of the combined subscription. Subscribers will gain access to streaming services, with choices including either Peacock or Paramount+, alongside significant fuel savings. Members will continue to save 10 cents a gallon at more than 17,000 participating fuel stations nationwide, a popular perk that directly addresses everyday household expenses.

These fuel and entertainment benefits build upon a steady cadence of lifestyle integrations introduced over the past couple of years. Sam’s Club notably expanded its program over the summer by incorporating Weight Watchers options, catering to health-conscious consumers looking for wellness support. Similarly, Walmart enriched its membership value proposition in 2024 by integrating exclusive purchase savings and perks from Burger King into its Walmart+ offerings, creating cross-industry synergies that extend well beyond traditional grocery and general merchandise retail.

By weaving these diverse benefits into a single, cohesive $120 annual package, Walmart is attempting to construct an inescapable value loop. The strategy aims to ensure that whether a consumer is shopping online for rapid delivery, stocking up on bulk items at a physical warehouse, filling up their gas tank, or streaming entertainment at home, their loyalty remains anchored firmly within the Walmart ecosystem.
