FirstClose, a prominent fintech provider specializing in data and workflow solutions for mortgage and home equity lenders, has announced a strategic alliance with property data provider Cotality. The newly minted partnership is designed to help lenders significantly streamline their home equity originations, bringing the timeline for closing loans down to as little as seven days. The collaboration merges FirstClose’s advanced point-of-sale and order management technology with Cotality’s comprehensive suite of property data, valuation, flood, tax, title, and property condition services. By bridging these two powerful systems, the companies aim to support the entire lifecycle of a home equity loan, moving seamlessly from the initial online application and automated decisioning through valuation, title work, closing, and final funding.

In today’s competitive mortgage environment, banks, credit unions, and independent mortgage banks are constantly searching for ways to optimize their operational frameworks. Through this integration, lenders will be able to manage the entire origination process within a single, cohesive workflow, eliminating the need to toggle between multiple disjointed platforms. The system features automated ordering and fulfillment of essential services, which drastically reduces the administrative burden traditionally placed on loan officers and processors. Furthermore, the platform integrates smoothly with several leading loan origination systems currently utilized across the industry. This interoperability helps lenders drastically reduce duplicate data entry by automatically populating vital borrower, property, and closing information directly into the primary system of record. Advanced document synchronization and integrated workflows are intended to eliminate manual tasks, limit an organization’s reliance on disconnected third-party vendors, and ultimately improve overall operational efficiency.

Beyond the immediate transactional benefits of a faster origination cycle, the alliance also provides lenders with deep access to valuable property and portfolio data. This infrastructure allows financial institutions to proactively identify potential home equity lending opportunities among their existing customer base. According to the companies, the combined power of these data sets and valuation insights will enable lenders to strengthen customer retention, engage prospective borrowers before they look elsewhere, and develop much more targeted, data-driven lending strategies. Tapping into an existing portfolio of depositors and mortgage holders has long been a primary objective for retail lenders seeking lower acquisition costs, and this integrated data layer makes that objective far more actionable.

Tedd Smith, CEO of FirstClose, emphasized the growing pressures facing the mortgage sector regarding turnaround times and borrower expectations. Home equity lenders are continually under pressure to deliver a faster, more seamless borrower experience without simultaneously increasing operational complexity or back-office headcount, Smith noted. He explained that the relationship with Cotality brings together best-in-class property intelligence, workflow automation, and integrated data tools specifically tailored to help lenders modernize their originations and achieve a true seven-day close.

To achieve this level of efficiency, the underlying technology relies heavily on robust data coverage. Cotality’s property intelligence platform brings a vast repository of information to the table, including detailed ownership history, comprehensive valuation data, intricate lien information, official tax records, precise flood determinations, and granular property condition insights. Crucially, this robust database covers more than 99% of all residential properties throughout the United States, ensuring that lenders have reliable, nationwide data at their fingertips regardless of where a particular property is located. This expansive coverage minimizes the friction that often occurs when dealing with rural or non-standard properties, which traditionally required manual research and delayed the underwriting process.

Adam Krahn, vice president of mortgage strategy and alliances at Cotality, echoed these sentiments regarding the collaborative effort to modernize the lending space. He highlighted that the collaboration with FirstClose reflects a shared corporate commitment to putting people first by delivering a smoother, more intuitive home equity lending process powered by a significantly more intelligent workflow. By removing friction points for both the borrower filling out the application and the loan processor managing the file, the partnership aims to redefine what consumers can expect when tapping into their home equity wealth. As both companies begin rolling out the integrated platform to lenders nationwide, the initiative stands as a notable example of how targeted fintech partnerships are reshaping the modern lending landscape.
